We at Big Turtle Tuning are the OTT tuning/ Toyota Tuning Network affiliate serving the area from Central Washington, through all of North Idaho and all of Western Montana. We specialize and are renowned for our performance tuning on Toyota and Lexus vehicles, resulting in more horsepower, more torque better throttle sensitivity and overall a better driving experience.
John Gobbels Owner, Fabricator & Calibrator - Overland Tailor Tuning
In 2012 John started building Overland Vehicles on the Jeep and Toyota Platforms and has extensive experience on Jeep JK, Land Cruiser 80, 100 and 200 Series vehicles.
Along with Overland Builds, John installed and calibrated LSX Engines into Jeep JK platforms using EFI Live and HPTuners to provide emissions compliant and CAN Bus parallel systems running alongside with the GM ECU.
Currently John has been calibrating using VFTuner and HPTuners on the Toyota Platform including 2005-2022 Toyota Tacoma and 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra, 2015-2019 Toyota 4Runner and select other Toyota vehicles.
As a graduate of Calibrated Success, a tuning school focusing on Advanced OEM EFI Calibration, John understands the importance of proper safety margin and best practices.
Justin Hebert Partner, Lead Calibrator- Overland Tailor Tuning
From the early days of automotive tuning to leading innovations in off-road performance, Justin’s career has been a journey of evolution and passion. He began tuning in the mid-1990s with antiquated analog strategies, long before programmable EFI became mainstream. His initial focus was on custom turbo kits and nitrous systems for Mazda KL series V6 engines—an exciting start to a dynamic field.
By the late ’90s, Justin ventured into the Diamond Star Motors (DSM) platforms, which marked the beginning of EFI tuning for him. The early 2000s brought the Subaru WRX to the US market, and he quickly found his way into the beta testing program of a prominent entity in Subaru Tuning, providing data aiding the development of software packages for their EMS.
In the mid-2000s, he returned to his 4G63 roots with the Lancer Evolution VIII and IX, pushing the boundaries of OEM ECU tuning solutions before open-source solutions became widely available. Justin’s expertise earned him a reputation that led to national contracts and collaborations with various regional performance shops.
The late 2000s introduced a new challenge: Toyota’s off-road platforms. After swapping engines and building out a series of vehicles (a SAS 1988 Toyota 4Runner, a fully OBD-2 compliant 3RZ-swapped 1983 Toyota Pickup, and a 2UZ-FE powered 1995 Pickup), he discovered his passion for Toyota off-roading in all its forms. As commercially available software started to become available for them, Justin worked with the development team at HPTuners to further develop their software suite for the 1GR-FE.
Today, as the Lead Calibrator and head of R&D at Overland Tailor Tuning, Justin continues to push the envelope by developing a wide range of calibrations for Toyota off-road platforms from 2003 to the present. A highlight of his work includes leading the development of the CARB-EO Calibration for the 3rd Generation Tacoma (3.5L). Justin’s role extends beyond tuning; it’s about pioneering solutions and delivering excellence in every project.

Isaac Carey, Owner - Big Turtle Tuning
His passion began at age sixteen, when he started modifying his 1978 Z28 Camaro and discovered the dramatic impact engine tuning has on performance and reliability. Over time, he blended this mechanical experience with a growing foundation in computer science, developing a unique technical approach to vehicle optimization.
In 2021, after purchasing a new Toyota Tacoma and sensing its untapped potential, Isaac began experimenting with his own modifications. This path led him to connect with John, Justin, and the Toyota Tuning Network, where he quickly realized how combining his skills with their platform could elevate his capabilities far beyond independent garage tinkering.
Today, Isaac tunes more than 300 vehicles each year, and has helped nearly 1,500 drivers experience the performance and drivability improvements of the Overland Torque Tune. He is recognized for his blend of hands-on mechanical knowledge, technical proficiency, and commitment to unlocking the full potential of modern vehicles.
